A six-month-old journey
Goodnight Universe is a story-driven adventure developed by Nice Dream. You play as Isaac, a six-month-old baby who’s just starting to discover some strange psychic powers. Unfortunately, because of your unique abilities, an evil tech corporation wants you for their own wicked agenda, and you must escape their terrible grasp.
Goodnight Universe is an immersive experience, told from a first-person perspective, particularly in the wide, curious eyes of a baby. Everything in your surroundings is bigger than usual, which might seem strange. This game perfectly mixes humor with heartfelt moments, creating an emotional journey that feels both intimate and surreal.
When babies get powers
In Goodnight Universe, Isaac, the six-month-old baby that you play as, has psychic powers that can manipulate the environment. He can move objects around the house without ever touching them. There is an eye and face-tracking tech feature that uses your webcam, and you can control Isaac’s action with your eyes, head movements, and facial expressions — an innovative technology not seen in most video games.
The game markets itself as an immersive narrative-driven adventure, and a unique one too, since the world around you is presented through the eyes of a baby, so the majority of the things that you are going to see are oversized objects and towering adults. On top of that, the environment around you has soft and warm colors, something that a baby can only project through their own innocent mind.
Story-wise, it’s a bit grounded and wholesome. It starts out with you as a seemingly normal baby, helping out your stressed-out family and relieving tensions by secretly using your powers to clean up the house and tidy up other things to make their lives easier. However, a secret corporation is aware of your abilities, and they are out to capture you for their own gain.
A game to watch
Goodnight Universe offers a touching and imaginative narrative experience, blending emotional depth with innovative gameplay. You can expect a unique journey as a psychic baby navigating love, danger, and self-discovery. However, the game is short and can be completed in one sitting. Additionally, opting for the traditional controls and not the face-tracking tech makes it less of an immersive experience.
